A hand-felted wool cat cave that gives your cat somewhere warm, dark and enclosed to hide and sleep. Cats settle into a covered cave bed far faster than an open cushion, and wool holds warmth on its own — no heat pad, no synthetic filling, no plastic frame. Every one is felted by hand in Nepal from natural sheep wool, shaped over a form with nothing but soap and water. This one is a white and grey kitty design; the marbling comes from the wool itself rather than a print, so no two are alike. Because each piece is worked by hand, the ears, face and thickness come out slightly different every time — yours will not be identical to the photograph, and that is the point. The shell is firm enough to hold its dome but soft enough for a cat to push through the opening and curl up inside. It suits kittens and average-sized adult cats, and small dogs and rabbits use them too. Made in small batches by artisans we buy from directly, at prices agreed with them. Ships worldwide from our Vancouver store with live carrier rates at checkout.

Every piece is worked individually, so colour, thickness and finish vary a little from one to the next. That variation is a feature of the craft, not a flaw.

Frequently asked questions

What is a felted wool cat cave?

It is an enclosed cat bed made by matting natural wool into a firm, self-supporting shell — no frame, no glue and no synthetic filling. The domed shape gives a cat somewhere dark and enclosed to curl up in, which is why cats tend to settle in one far faster than they do on an open bed. This one is felted by hand in Nepal in a white and grey marbled kitty design with ears, whiskers and a stitched sleeping face.

Will my cat actually use it?

Most do, and usually quickly. Cats look for small, enclosed, slightly dark spaces to sleep in, which is exactly what a cave bed provides, and wool holds warmth without getting hot. If your cat is slow to take to it, put it where they already sleep and drop in a familiar blanket or a favourite toy for a few days.

What is it made from?

Natural wool, felted by hand in Nepal — nothing synthetic inside it. The marbled grey and white comes from the wool itself rather than a print, so the pattern is different on every piece. It is ethically sourced.

How do I clean a wool cat cave?

Spot clean with cold water and a little mild soap, then let it air dry away from direct heat. If it needs more, hand wash in lukewarm water, press the water out without wringing, reshape it while it is still damp and leave it to dry naturally. Do not tumble dry — heat and agitation will shrink and distort felted wool.

What size cat does it suit?

It suits kittens and adult cats up to roughly average size, and small dogs use them too. Wool has some give, so a cat that only just fits will usually push the opening to shape over time. If your cat is a large breed, measure them curled up before ordering.
